Striking Comparisons: From the MOCA GA Permanent Collection
10am - 5pm
Striking Comparisons: From the Permanent Collection was curated by MOCA GA staff; Martha Brewer, Lisa Dewberry, and Joey Orr. The exhibit explored relationships of content, form, color, and other qualities, at times meditative and whimsical. These relationships frequently venture across media, pairing works in new ways in an exploration of new connections. The fifty-one pieces on display included works that Georgia audiences are now beginning to recognize, as well as a few that have been acquired since the Museum’s opening.
Annette Cone-Skelton asked staff members Martha Brewer, Lisa Dewberry, and Joey Orr to curate the exhibit based on their collective expertise working with Georgia art and artists. Joey Orr, who was the Director of Development and Education at MOCA GA was also the founder of Atlanta’s ShedSpace, the acclaimed annual series of neighborhood-based exhibits designed to build community and foster a deeper understanding of the visual arts. Martha Brewer, a graduate of Hollins University with a B.A. in art history, began at MOCA GA as a board member then moved to the position of Assistant to the Director, and completed here tenure at MOCA GA as Membership and Events Coordinator. Lisa Dewberry, who was MOCA GA’s Collections Manager, was a graduate of Agnes Scott College with a major in history and a minor in art history.
