10am - 5pm
“This exhibition is a fine example of collaboration at its best; of three independent jurors working together to select a show from among hundreds of submissions, and of the staff of MOCA GA who designed this presentation. Culled from a general call, the show reflects the complex variety of the photographic medium at present, as well as the expansive attitudes of artists in Georgia and the region. In the past decades photography has outgrown the narrow focus of documentary reportage and zone system developing into a field that has embraced and helped redefine contemporary art practice. Appropriation, collage techniques and transformation with the digital toolbox all took root in post-modern photography. Color, scale and presentation take the medium further into a wider art conversation. Interestingly, the fourteen photographers’ work on view attest to these changes and present a fairly balanced synopsis of the state of the art. While manipulated imagery is prominent, straight photography also plays a strong role. Detailed black and white prints or luscious natural color convey meaning as sensorial fact or implied mood. In that, it remains clear that a way of seeing still distinguishes the art of photography.”
