Accelerating Sequence: Artists Observe Time and Aging
10am - 5pm
Accelerating Sequence: Artists Observe Time and Aging, a national exhibition, explored a complex variety of notions and expressions of aging and the flow of time. For centuries, artists have looked metaphorically at time and our consciousness of its passage. Many have documented their own physical aging process, often encapsulating the range of emotions and ideological constructs that situate our awareness of the progression. The exhibition’s title, “Accelerating Sequence,” alludes to the impression of time passing more quickly as one ages.
It was curated by Georgia native Dan Talley, Director of the Sheradin Art Gallery at Kutztown University of Pennsylvania, co-founder of Art Papers magazine, and curator of MOCA GA’s 2002 exhibition, “Color Culture Complexity.”
Ninety-percent of the work exhibited was created specifically for this show. For example, Michael Aurbach’s “Final Self-Portrait” was on display at the museum from January 29 to February 17, on which date it was buried at an off-site location in a scripted “funeral program,” never to be seen again.
