David Swann, "Portrait of Larry Walker" (detail), 2012, Purchased through a grant from The Massey Charitable Trust in partnership with the Atlanta Photography Group

The Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia extends our sincerest condolences to the loved ones of our dear friend and legendary artist Larry Walker. Larry’s work as an artist, educator, curator, board member, and arts writer enlivened MOCA GA and the city of Atlanta. He inspired future generations to push the boundaries of their materials and methods of making while redefining how artists can activate creativity in the name of social justice. MOCA GA was honored to select Larry as one of three inaugural Working Artist Project Fellows in 2007. His WAP exhibition, Surface, Spirit Voices and Other Secrets, The Wall Series in Transition, not only stands among the premier exhibitions in the museum’s history but was the first Working Artist Project exhibition. In addition to his contributions to the arts, we remember Larry’s generosity and kind spirit. He will forever be in our hearts.
