MOCA GA / Gathered VI Open Call

The Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia (MOCA GA) is calling all Georgia artists for its 6th installment of the biennial exhibition Gathered VI: Georgia Artists Selecting Georgia Artists. Esteemed jurors Betsy Cain, Joseph Peragine, and Bojana Ginn are committed to offering not only the breadth of talent across the state of Georgia, but also the depth.  The exhibition has steadily evolved over the last seventeen years from its original incarnation: Within State Lines, which took place in 2006 and 2009, to Georgia Artists Selecting Georgia Artists, 2013 and 2015, and finally, to Gathered: Georgia Artists Selecting Georgia Artists.  The MOCA GA mission is fully realized within this project as artists are involved in all phases of the exhibition, including selection and review.

In the 2021 incarnation of Gathered, jurors Krista Clark, Gregor Turk, and Lucha Rodriguez selected a diverse spectrum of artwork including sculpture, painting, photography, textiles and new media.  The result was a rich group exhibition celebrating 46 Georgia artists. We anticipate this year’s selections to rival past exhibitions, extoling the breadth and talent encompassed within the state of Georgia’s visual arts community.

This is an open call to all artists 18 years of age and older, living in the state of Georgia. There is a $35 non-refundable entrance fee, with up to $5,000 in awards to be given out.  All artists are requested to submit digital images (or video if new media) of 3 recent works which best represent their practice.  All submissions must be made to mocaga-gathered-vi.artcall.org. Artists whose work is selected should be prepared to exhibit any or all of their submitted works as jurors may select just one, or they may choose multiple works from each artist. As proven in past exhibitions, Gathered VI will be an exciting and thoughtful representation of the art that Georgia artists are currently producing.

Awards – Up to $5,000 in cash prizes

Eligibility:

• Home and Studio address must be within state of Georgia
• Artists must be at least 18 years of age

MOCA GA will provide:

• Extensive marketing through social media and press outlets
• Staff for exhibition preparation and installation
• A selection of available pedestals, wall shelving, and projectors/monitors
• Exhibition interpretive materials
• Public opening reception and accompanying programming events

Artists are asked to:

• Deliver/pick-up their artwork to/from MOCA GA at the specified date/time
• Be available for consultation regarding the installation of their artwork and provide assistance with installation as needed
• Complete and sign a MOCA GA Exhibition Loan Form

Please submit materials* no later than midnight on Monday, September 11, 2023

You will need to include the following with your submission:

• Georgia mailing address, phone number, and email
• Short bio (no more than 150 words)
• Brief statement about your current work (50-100 words)
• Three images (or videos if new media), of artwork which must all be available for the entire exhibition period. See exhibition dates above.
  • Images submitted in jpeg or png format and must be under 4mb and a maximum of 4800 px on the longest side.
  • New media (video, animation, and motion graphics, etc.) must be submitted as mov or mp4 and no larger than 25mb or may be submitted as a direct link using the URL field.
• Works must be produced within the last three (3) years. All works must be installation ready, and please use professional quality frames and/or mounting materials.
• $35 entrance fee
