Heart Land Dark Land
11am - 5pm
A special exhibition of recent works by Andy Nasisse.
Artist Statement
For many years I’ve been making sculpture that references the mythic possibilities of the figure, the metaphorical possibilities of the vessel, and the animistic possibilities of the landscape.
The current work arises from a sense of foreboding that lurks beneath what we consider to be our heartland. This is an internal as well as an external state. Darkness and mystery, light and transcendence, expansion and contraction, organic and geometric, love and hate, life and death are opposite forces that drive the universe.
About the Artist
Andy Nasisse is a potter who uses the figure and vessel as vehicles to express thoughts about the human condition. He received his BFA from Adams State College of Colorado and his MFA from the University of Colorado. Nassise, who taught at the University of Georgia as a ceramics professor, has received fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and Georgia Council for the Arts, and a research grant from the University of Georgia. His work has been exhibited at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, GA; Ashville Art Museum in Ashville, NC; Birmingham Museum of Art in Birmingham, AL; and numerous other institutions throughout the United States.
