Abstraction Today

Selections of artists working in abstraction today. Curated by some of Atlanta’s most prominent galleries: Alan Avery Art Company, Marcia Wood Gallery, Mason Fine Art, Sandler Hudson Gallery, {Poem 88}, and Whitespace Gallery.

Alan Avery Art Company

Now the oldest sustained contemporary art gallery in Atlanta, Alan Avery Art Company represents works by exciting and technically proficient emerging, mid-career and internationally established career artists including, Robert Rauschenberg, Jim Dine, Romare Bearden, Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Kipniss, Donald Sultan, Chuck Close, Louise Nevelson, Helen Frankenthaler and Kara Walker. Clients of the gallery include numerous public institutions, corporations, and private collectors across the globe.

{Poem 88}

Under the curatorial direction of writer and filmmaker Robin Bernat, since 2010, {Poem88} represents emerging and mid-career artists, and presents thoughtful and innovative explorations in a new artistic frontier. Artists work in both traditional and non-traditional formats including painting, drawing, photography, installation, and experimental filmmaking. Each artist represented at {Poem88} is actively engaged in the larger art communities where they live: as professors, teachers, writers, designers and lecturers.

Sandler Hudson Gallery

Sandler Hudson Gallery was established in 1989 by native Atlantans, Robin Sandler and Debbie Hudson. The gallery is committed to showing provocative and beautifully executed work by established and mid-career contemporary artists both in the Southeast and nationwide. Sandler Hudson Gallery exhibits work in a variety of media including: painting, drawing, photography, video and sculpture.

Whitespace Gallery

Whitespace is a contemporary gallery active in Atlanta and across the southeast that seeks to foster an immersive environment of free-expression, intimacy, and dialogue. Under the direction of owner Susan Bridges, the gallery has housed numerous exhibitions across all mediums promoting artistic innovation and inquiries into the relationships that define who we are, both collectively and as individuals. As a respected institution in Atlanta’s art community, Whitespace and the artists it houses continue to inspire all who attend through thoughtful examinations of the world around us, allowing viewers a new mode of seeing beyond meaning.
