About the Exhibition:
Marcia R. Cohen: Sight Specific
“This exhibition “Sight Specific” is a convergence of my ideas about color and visual perception. The exhibition at MOCA GA and the WAP Fellowship facilitated a cogent look at my artwork in mid-career. This exhibition reveals the evolution of my ideas and my working process as I shift from paintings, to the photographs, the sketchbooks, to works on paper and the sculptures… examining, probing and questioning. The Fellowship provided the resources to concentrate on ideas and present the work in a professional manner. I am very grateful to the Charles Loridans Foundation and to MOCA Ga for this extraordinary opportunity.
Carter E. Foster, curator of drawings from the Whitney Museum in New York, selected my work from a highly competitive group of applicants. His studio visit, comments and encouragement was the high point of the WAP Fellowship. Having a studio assistant to mentor and assist me in the preparation of a major exhibition has been an exceptional experience. Lastly, the opportunity to share my work and thoughts with the Atlanta community underscores the importance and value of this award and of my contributions to the city where I have matured as an artist and educator for the past 35 years.”
