About Shara Hughes
MOCA GA is pleased to present Guess You Had To Be There, a solo exhibition of new work by Shara Hughes. This exhibition completes the 2012/2013 Working Artist Project (WAP). Guess You Had To Be There debuts paintings that Shara has created and completed over the last year of WAP. Shara is an Atlanta-based artist who studied at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in New York and the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence. Her paintings combine elements of landscape, still life, and figuration to dizzying effects. She has had solo exhibitions around the world including at the American Contemporary and Rivington Arms in New York, Museum 52 in London, and Mikael Anderson in Copenhagen and Berlin.
“There is clearly great depth and diversity in Atlanta’s artistic pool. My selections include three dynamic female artists, all of whom explore the complex merging of abstraction and representation within painting, each in their own singular voice. I look forward to seeing how their exhibitions play a role in the ongoing vitality and plurality of painting today.”
