Local artist and art critic, Carlyn Fisher (b. 1923 in Atlanta, GA – d. 2017 in Atlanta, GA) was intrinsically tied to the art culture of Atlanta and has been instrumental in cultivating Atlanta’s diverse artistic climate. The author, painter and design pioneer was responsible for the Hambidge Center’s Fisher and Brena studios. As an organizer of art venues in the 1960’s and 70’s, Fisher’s involvement in Atlanta’s cultural scene is indicative of her dedication to the arts. She was a recipient of the National Endowement of the Arts and published The Arts in Georgia (1967).
