Ben Smith is an Atlanta based artist, versed in drawing, printmaking and sculpture. He is perhaps best known for creating enormous woodblock prints of shamans, wizards, and ceremonial figures. The prints, which sometimes reach dimensions of up to 15 feet, feature bold, black designs on white backgrounds with occasional splashes of bright color. Small passages of intricate details punctuate long, flowing lines that appear and disappear in undulating spirals. In recent years, Ben has turned his attention to drawing and teaching at the Chastain Arts Center and the Atlanta College of Art. His work can be found is a spectrum of locations, including the collections of the High Museum of Art, the Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn, NY; Morris Museum, New Orleans, LA; University of Kentucky, Lexington, KY; and Brown University, Providence, RI.
