Void of color, our world is reduced to its essence of form and texture. Vangrov’s black and white images are an exploration of this monochromatic world of patterns, shapes, tones and textures as found in natural settings. Although he uses modern digital equipment to capture, process and print his images, Vangrov is a traditionalist at heart. Drawing inspiration from the master darkroom printmakers of the pre-digital era of black and white photography, he uses image processing programs to perform only traditional darkroom techniques such as dodging and burning, tonal adjustments and contrast control to create the printed image as he visualized it in the field.
