Herbert Creecy b. August 1939 in Norfolk, Virginia; d. 2003 |
Herbert Creecy grew up in Atlanta and attended the University of Alabama and the Atlanta College of Art. Always an abstract painter, Creecy’s work was featured in exhibitions at the Art in Embassies Program, Clark Atlanta University, the High Museum of Art and OK Harris Gallery in New York City, and numerous group exhibitions across the world. His work is held in museum collections of the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; the High Museum of Art, Atlanta; the Akron Museum, Akron, OH; Indianapolis Museum of Art, Indianapolis IN; the Morris Museum of Art, Augusta; the Telfair Museum, Savannah, Georgia; the Mobile Museum of Art, Mobile, AL; and MOCA GA. University collections include Emory University; Cornell University and the University of Tennessee, and numerous other private collections. Creecy was honored at MOCA GA in 2003 with a solo exhibition curated from private collections in Atlanta soon after his death that year. Creecy was selected as one of twenty-seven artists in the recent Georgia Council for the Arts publication: “Georgia Masterpieces: Selected Works from Georgia Museums” and the MOCA GA exhibition it inspired, Twenty Georgia Masters.
